Calculating Bladder Volume On Ultrasound
The ellipsoid formula, which posits that the bladder has an ellipsoidal shape, is the most often used approach for calculating bladder volume on ultrasound. The formula is as follows:
Bladder volume = 6 times length, width, and height
The ultrasound technician or radiologist will take a transverse and longitudinal view of the bladder to determine its dimensions. They will use callipers or place cursors on the ultrasound image to measure the length, width, and height of the bladder.
Once the measurements are obtained, the technician or radiologist can use the above formula to calculate the bladder volume. The result is an estimate of the bladder volume that can be utilised for diagnostic or monitoring purposes.

The generic formula for calculating volume on ultrasound / CT / MRI is length x breadth x height x 0.523, which assumes that most structures are ellipsoid (like an ellipsoid). Cc and ml are used interchangeably, especially for prostate. I like to use cc as that is the true measurement.
