IGe levels

I've had a food allergy test on a list of common foods.
Results came back as follows: Egg white 1.59 crab 0.56 shrimp 1.52, meat 2.35, soy 1.18, apple 2.76, hazelnut 48.11

Does anyone have any experience with interpreting the results? The testing company say eliminate all but I've read that people have certain levels of IGe antibodies anyway that could produce a result.

I got it done because of unexplained abdominal pain. Am following the fodmap diet so would be hard to try and eliminate any more foods

Thank you for posting on the forum. So the testing company said to avoid all the foods that you listed, but what did they say about how people have certain levels of IGe antibodies anyway which could produce a result?

There was no mention of this although I have read that since and haven't started any elimination yet.

Hi Claire,

Specific IgE testing is something of a dark art - when I request them in clinic, I always request a total IgE alongside the specific results. The reason for this is that if you have a very high total IgE, this tends to skew the specific IgE numbers upwards - making them less specific (but often still helpful). Broadly, you might find these numbers helpful:

Specific IgE
concentration kUa/L


100+ 6 - strong positive Very high.
52.5+ 5 - strong positive Very high. Refer to patient history
17.5+ 4 - strong positive Very high. Refer to patient history
3.5+ 3 - positive High
0.7+ 2 - positive Moderate
0.35+ 1 - low, weak positive Low
<0.35 0 - negative Absent

By way of explanation, I'm a consultant dermatologist in south London (not an immunologist!) but that's how I interpret this.
