What's my risk of ovarian cancer?
My sister died from Ovarian Cancer. I had a hysterectomy, unaware of my sister's diagnosis, and they left my ovaries even though I had gone through the menopause. My question is what risk is there of me getting Ovarian cancer, and is there anything I should be doing now I am aware of her cause of death? Thank you, Jo.

Hello Jo ,
We are really sorry to hear about your sister.
If you have no other family history of breast, prostate or cancer then your risk of ovarian cancer is the same as the general population.
If you have two or more family members ( close first degree relatives) with these cancers , then it is worth talking to your GP to ask if you could see a genetic counsellor to look at your family history more closely with you to see if it is sensible to test you to see if there is an alteration in your BRCA genes that can increase the risk of having ovarian and breast cancer.
Wishing you well.
