Re: Psoriasis and stress

Hi there, As you you have found, the skin and mind are intrinsically linked. Sometimes, the milder treatments (e.g. creams and light) just aren't good enough. As dermatologists, we have access to extremely potent treatments that will likely control the psoriasis very effectively. You might find this...

Re: Patchy skin colour

Hi Darren, I think you have a yeast build up on your skin called pityriasis versicolor. It might be worthwhile getting hold of an anti-yeast shampoo, making it up into a lather and then washing it off after 3-5 minutes. You should notice some improvement within a few weeks. Hope that helps a little!...

Re: Eczema

Hi there,

I'm sorry that you've been suffering with your skin.

I think you might benefit from Protopic 0.03% or 0.1% ointment which reduces inflammation and, in contrast to steroid creams, can be used quite safely in the longer run around the eyes.

Hope that helps a little!

Re: Melasma treatment

Hi there, There are many products recommended in the treatment of melasma. In my experience, protecting your skin meticulously will help prevent progression (e.g. high factor sunscreen). In terms of actual treatments, I have had excellent results from Pigmanorm cream which I prescribe online. This i...

Re: Lamellar Ichthyosis

Hi there,

There are significant similarities in how ichthyosis and psoriasis develop under the microscope. Any treatment that slows down how quickly the skin cells turn over can be helpful in both conditions.

Tablets like acitretin can therefore be very helpful.

Best wishes,

Re: Spotty rashes in the sun

Hi there, It's quite likely you have polymorphic light eruption. You can be referred to your local dermatologist for desensitisation which will 'harden' the skin. They will shine light on your skin to enable it to handle the harsher sun of summer. Alternatively, anti-malarial tablets such as hydroxy...

Re: Lichen Planus

Hi there, Lichen planus is a real nuisance. The good news is that it can be treated quite successfully using light therapy (a type of standing sunbed that you come to the hospital for), tablets such as acitretin (which is safer in the longer run than prednisolone). You may find this leaflet helpful....

Re: Skin feeling tight

Hi there, Chemotherapy can lead to marked drying of the skin as it causes the loss of essential oils and water that normally helps keep our skin supple. Although it can be a bit of a nuisance, I'd recommend trying ointments rather than creams/lotions. Ointments have a higher oil-to-water ratio than ...

Re: Bullous Phemphigoid

Hi there, Bullous pemphigoid can be an intensely itchy and distressing condition that tends to affect older individuals. I tend to prescribe strong steroid creams (e.g. Dermovate), doxycycline tablets (an anti-inflammatory antibiotic) and, if we need them, steroid tablets. The combination is general...

Re: Red patch

Hello there,

There are a huge number of reasons as to why you might have developed these red patches. Are they itchy? Are they rough to the touch?

Do you have any pictures?
