Elaine Hazell
I trained at Guy’s Hospital, qualifying in 1979. I started my career in gynaecology & general surgery before moving to other hospitals to specialise in urology. I undertook the urology course in 1986 & worked as a ward manager for 8 years. I then worked for a private company for 5 years as a nurse advisor in continence care after which I returned to the NHS as a continence advisor in Bexley, Kent. I have now worked at Guy’s for 10 years as functional urology nurse specialist specialising in urodynamics & continence. I am an independent prescriber & teach on the male catheterisation course & mentor urodynamic trainees for the trust. I also look after a cohort of patients who have artificial urinary sphincters & activate them post implant. I assist in running pre & post op seminars for patients who have undergone robotic radical prostatectomies & wellbeing seminars for post treatment patients with cancer of the prostate. I run nurse led clinics for patients with lower urinary tract symptoms. I am a member of the pelvic floor unit in the trust & assess both males & females with urinary & bowel symptoms.
