Carolyn Blears
I started my nursing carer in 1979 and trained at Salford Royal Hospital as a Registered General Nurse. My first staffing role was in theatre and when I married I started as a community nurse.
I worked as a community nurse for twenty years and gained my degree and advanced prescribers qualification.
For the last ten years I have worked as a continence nurse and later five years as the Team Leader. I was the education lead for the trust on all catheter training and bowel care education. My role included nurse lead continence clinics assessing and diagnosing bladder and bowel conditions.
My current post is with PromoCon a charity that was established 20 years ago, with initial funding from Department of Health, to ensure both patients and professionals were aware of all continence product options available to them, to ensure an improved quality of life.
